15 May 2007 - Granada Alhambra

I expect that everyone who visits Granada also visits the Alhambra. Our hotel was opposite the entrance and very large car and coach park. Both were constantly packed, and large groups making their way to join the permanent queues at the entrance. There was a slight problem as our guide could not collect our entrance tickets as a group, so each pair had to queue to get their own. We were then told that we would have to produce our passports as a means of identity. We had not brought them as we did not realise we would need them. Fortunately we were not asked for any ID, just given our tickets as our name was on the list.

The Alhambra is certainly well worth a full day - at least. We have never been particularly interested in visiting grand houses, prefering the gardens. However this was different. We each had a tape recorded guide, so we could ramble around at will, and replay parts if we wished. It made the visit much more interesting, even the inside parts. And the gardens were just spectacular.
